Mads Langer-ed.
I suppose I'm avoiding the underlyring issue of all this gloom and doom (I find it difficult to say the particulars, I hope you all understand). I am admittedly too fragile and too coward to deal with the entirety of it. So my old faithful, my tried and tested savior comes to light: MUSIC. It aids my focus, helps funnel my energy to things that are worth doing.
In this light, I wanna share a bit of the music I've been listening to: MADS LANGER - a Danish singer who has the ability to turn my mood from bad to pleasant. He's a genious artist and I'm smitten by him big time! My playlist from now on is going to be all about him.
All of his songs are pretty good, but my favorite remains to be "Beauty Of The Dark." A song I stumbled upon while watching Vampire Diaries. I don't particularly like posting lyrics of songs in my blog cause I think it's pointless.. But in this case, it gets to me.. so much that I'm willing to post it right here.
***
The beauty of the dark is the beauty of you
I dream of dreaming dreams of you but nightmares always block the view I can't sleep
The beauty of silence is the noise of no words
When everything I listen for is here when you walk in the door tonight
Where is the light in your deep dark room?
A shock of white could save you from your shadow
Why is the dark behind the moon?
Out of reach until the light is shattered
The ugly things I do for beauty
If you could see what's real in me then maybe beauty wouldn't be so cruel
Where is the light in your deep dark room?
A shock of white could save you from your shadow
Why is the dark behind the moon?
Out of reach until the light is shattered

Just Frayin'.

If there's one band I could listen to over and over for the next hundred years (without the consequences of suffering a brain damage), it has got to be "The Fray". This four-man rock band has the most amazing vocals! They're like a breath of fresh air, like cold water post marathon, or pizza after fasting for days. And I would need a stronger word than 'addicted' to articulately describe how much I'm into them.
I absolutely adore all of their songs, but these 5 are my favorites:
*Never Say Never
*Look After You
*How To Save A Life
*You Found Me
*Over My Head
11.17.2009
Top 5.
In these times, when there isn't much to smile about, I could really use a (massive) dose of laughter. But since I'm presently surrounded with people who refutes sense of humor (must be from watching that doomsday movie, I heard it's kind of shocking and depressing), I'm just holding on to music to keep me sane till the 'storm' wears off.
I found songs from really great bands. Some of them old and some are still new, but they're all great and talented. I'd like to share my top 5 favorite song of the moment. I copied and pasted the links, so do check it.
For the longest time, I've been looking for bands like Placebo that are not too mainstream-y. I also love how they experiement with different instruments so their songs differ from one another.
*Thom Yorke of Radioheads - "True Love Waits"
I'm not particularly a fan of Radioheads, I only know a couple of their songs. But frontman Thom Yorke in my opinion, is really awesome. I super love this song.
*Death Cab For A Cutie - "Transatlanticism"
This band captivates me. Their songs are exactly my kind of lullabye.
*Landon Pigg - "Can't Let Go"
For someone so new, I didn't know a song could be this catchy. This guy's teeth bothers me though... It makes me feel like running to my dentist.
*Bowling For Soup - "When We Die"
I don't like the band. I only listen to this song and skip the rest. I didn't know a guy with painted nails could be this annoying... watch the video to know what I'm talking about. :p
*Jimmy Eat World - "Kill"
Another ear candy from one of my favorite bands. It's so easy to listen to these guys. They make me crave for macaroons and hot chocolate whenever I listen to their songs.

*Lenka - "Trouble Is A Friend"
*Carolina Liar - "Show Me What I'm Looking For"

Of Skittish Saturday Evening.
So what is there to do when you're alone on a Saturday evening? Well I got a bag of popcorn ready to be microwaved later, beer chilling in the fridge, and a few more episodes of my favorite TV show to be downloaded, then I'm all set to pull an all-nighter or at least till the caffeine wears off.
You know you have too much caffeine when you're anxious and jittery for no reason, and that's exactly what I'm feeling right now. I hope dimming the lights while drinking this cup of peppermint tea would relax me as I'm writing this. Got a couple of songs playing, and they sound pretty great with the speaker volume on high. If you wanna know what I'm talking about, help yourself by clicking the links. I swear it'll do wonders to your restless, caffeine-troubled soul..
One Republic - Come Home
Carolina Liar - Beautiful World
White Apple Tree - Snowflake
Finger Eleven - I'll Keep Your Memory Vague
Death Cab for a Cutie - The Ice is Getting Thinner
Angels and Airwaves - The Gift

Others dream about becoming a doctor, a teacher or a lawyer. In my case, I dream of becoming a musical director of some sort. I wanna make awesome music videos, and be able to choose the music for a movie or something. Imagine this, someone asks you "so what do you do?", and after a short pause (it's essential so as to give emphasis) you say "I'm a musical director", and from then on you wont be known as the girl with big eyes and brown hair, but a girl with the coolest job ever! It's funny how my thoughts drift from one bizarre thing to the next.
Enough of the nonsensical talk, here are my songs for the week.
Everclear - Glorious I don't know whether to like or hate this song cause there's a bit of a country tune to it, but I also think that the rhythm is pretty great.
Dropping Daylight - Apologies This is a sad song, great when you feel like moping, and moping some more.
The Crash Motive - No Tomorrow, Just Tonight I love the song, I love the title, and I love the band.
Yellowcard - Light up the Sky For some strange reason, I like listening to this when I'm doing my nails..
Faulter - October 16 A really nice song from one of the coolest band I've ever known. Not too loud, not too sappy, just perfect.

I'm so into music, and I'm always on the look out for new songs that I could add to my ever growing mp3 files (currently at 1,213 songs and counting). That's why I'm starting a weekly music countdown thing-y here. Like I said, it's gonna be a weekly thing (ok, I'm beginning to sound redundant), and I'll be posting new songs and hopefully, it's on youtube so I could include the links.
Like some of you may know, I'm exclusively drawn to 3 specific genres (alternative, RNB, and Beach House music). So if it doesn't fall into any of the three categories, I don't listen to it (no matter how 'catchy' and popular the song is), hence I'm not gonna post it here.
Well, I've got a couple of really cool songs which I'm currently listening on repeat mode, and this will officially kick off my weekly countdown. Now do yourself a favor... sit back, click those links, and enjoy the music.
1. MGMT - *Time to Pretend God I love this song so much! I'm so feeling the beat, and I can't stop tapping my fingers everytime I hear it.
2. The Fly's - *Got you where I want you A song that's gonna be around for generations. It never gets old.
3. Snow Patrol - *How to be Dead This band never disappoints me. I haven't heard a song from Snow Patrol that I didn't like.
4. Vega 4 - *Life is Beautiful When I have difficulty sleeping, I listen to this song. It freezes all my anxieties and put me to sleep.
5. Tal Bachman - *If You Sleep You have to be really patient with this song. It doesn't start off really good, but wait till you get to the chorus. I'm telling you, it's definitely worth the wait.

"Aeroplane"
I'm so in love with this song right now, I kept on listening to it over and over again. My Tal Bachman addiction started after watching "American Pie Presents Band Camp", and they played the song "Aeroplane" at the end of the movie. You guys should check it out cause this song totally rocks!!!

About music and my sister.
My sister discovered this bizaare theory (thru a magazine I suppose, she likes reading 'em a lot) that a person can be 'read', not exactly read but 'assessed' through the kind of music they listen to. I know... she reads a lot of Cosmo magazines but I'm dead curious what was her assessment with me. Sis is entirely the opposite of me. She likes the typical chick flicks and chick music.. I like conspiracies, tragic endings, and the unpredictable. She'd always say she exactly knows what kind of music I like.. Like if she hears a certain song, she'd know if it's 'my' music or not. I don't know how she does it cause most of the time she's right. Is there some sort of distinct rhythmic pattern that she unraveled, something that draws me but I wasn't aware of? I don't like EVERY alternative song there is... I'm a bit more choosy that what she gives me credit for.

I don't know why but whenever I talk about music, I always associate it with my sister. Probably because she loves music as much as I do. Or maybe I just miss her.. We're so different in so many ways, but we're pretty close. She's always the first one to know if I'm troubled or if something's bothering me.
It's tedious to create links for all five of them, but I'd really want to share it with everyone. I think it's pretty great.
Faber Drive - Tongue Tied
Fuel - Wasted Time
Skillet - The Older I Get
Graham Colton Band - Best Days
Twelve Stones - Running Out of Pain
Those are new links. I tried to fix it cause the previous ones didn't seem to work. Happy listening!!!

Musical tale of 100's.
I appreciate so many kinds of music.. but there are the ones I can't stand like Techno Pop. It's impossible for me to stand listening to one.. The beat and redundant lyrics peeve me so much. I also hate Jazz that uses a lot of trumpet sounds, cause it sounds like an 'impish fart', and unconsciously you find your toe tapping to the beat, your arms swayin a bit, to the sound of 'IMPISH FART' ?! Sorry for my choice of words... Slow Rock songs from the late 80s to early 90's are also unacceptable to my ears. It's pure torture listening to one. If I get to listen to it the whole day, I swear, my ears will definitely bleed! Country music, unfortunately, is also included in my growing stupid list of unacceptable music. I'm not sure why, but I tend to associate country music with horses (I'm a very strange girl and I know that). Then there's this Crunk music, a.k.a. "suffer-me-no-more"... Some of my friends like Crunk, but I always thought it's all noise, like some random guy blabbing non-stop then one day, they decided to call it music! OK, I dread writing this... Death Metal (or any music associated with the word 'METAL' for that matter), we all know the reason why everybody hates this kind of music. I'm struggling to even type it, and I'm sure my voice will edge up a few octave when I say it out aloud. That's how much I hate it! The last one may come as a surprise to many, and I'm not sure exactly what genre this music belongs to, but I call it some Creepy Choir Music . It scares the hell out of me. Like the stuff they play in horror flicks with old churches as their backdrop... or something like that.
Let's go to the good part.. songs which I like.. I have like 500 of them, but since my player could only accomodate a limited number of songs (cause I'm also listening to a couple of audio books and it takes a lot of space too ^^), I skimmed a hundred of my favorites out of the 500. And it proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. Favorites among favorites, weird analogy. The list changes from time to time, like I'd replace a couple of songs with other ones... But mostly, I'd stick to this kind of genre. I usually get my inspiration from OST's, movies or TV shows that played it, and some random music videos that I chanced upon. My sister thinks it's not very original, I just roll my eyes and tell her "So?"... Her chick music preference isn't really appealing to me. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. But sometimes, it gets to my nerves. Like when she put the song "Bleeding Love" in repeat mode, and I got to hear it repeatedly.

Of mp3 player and stuff.
I got my new mp3 player last Tuesday night, and so far so good. It's a nice addition to my 1 year old Pink Samsung Yepp (which I accidentally left in Manila and God knows when I can get my hands on them again!) . I was worried that it wouldn't be here on time before I go to Daecheon (went there last Wednesday and stayed there for three days), but good thing it arrived early.
I have more than 70 songs there... mostly alternative, a bit of rock music, and some classical ones. I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and how easy it is to use. One bad thing though, it doesn't play for long... 4 to 5 hours max, just enough for the 4 hour back and forth train ride from Suwon to Daecheon. I just wish I could use it longer...

Of music and player.
Mp3 is a necessity for me. A huge, huge necessity. I use it whenever I have difficulty in sleeping because apparently, listening to Chopin, Beethoven, and Debussy cures it. And it's so hard for me to stand the subway and bus ride without songs to keep me company. I just can't live without music... it's as indispensable as air.
I'm re-arranging my audio files, and I found this particular song that was played during my sister's wedding. It was so beautifully sang then that I had goosebumps, others started to get teary-eyed. I'd like to share it with everyone so I'm posting it here..

Slideshow.
Absurd as it may seem, but I can't shrug Edward's face out of my head. He has affected me tremendously that I bought all four books from the Twilight Saga. I finished the first book "Twilight", 3 days after I got it. I'm looking forward to start with the next book "New Moon" hopefully by tomorrow. I acknowledge my addiction instead of fighting it, he has been my fix, keeping me sane (or insane?) throughout the day. And it aint gonna stop till I set foot in London, and I get to breathe the same british air as he does.
A lousy update:
I started reading the next book "New Moon" last night and I'm done by dinner time today. I wish it could've entertained me longer.

Ayumi is such a talented singer, some would even say she's the best in Japan. So I hate it when others say she's too old cause good music doesn't come with age. I totally dig her voice! To me, it's like a lullabye... soft, calm and soothing, doing something more than just putting me to sleep!

Big Bang Boys

I'm addicted listening to Big Bang. I spent half of the day downloading their songs and watching their music videos and interviews! I even created a special folder just for them which can only mean they're extra special...
I first heard of this group last winter in Korea when a middle school girl I know, kept on asking me "Do you know Big Bang?", and whenever I say no she'll ask "Why-eeee?". She does this everytime we see each other, as if praying I'd finally bump my head and realize that they're the cutest being in the world and 'HOW COULD I NOT KNOW THEM?' I thought there wasn't anything special about this group, just some random Korean boy band who got pretty faces and a little talent paving their way to stardom by wooing middle school and high school girls (their biggest and only market...!). It turns out, I was wrong, so wrong.
I got curious after I first saw them at a New Year Celebration Show on T.V. and they were there to perform together with a lot of popular entertainers. I thought they're super cute and I wanted to see more of them so I started listening to their songs...
I've got a 'gi-normous' crush on G-Dragon (cutie on the left side)! I find him the cutest among the bunch and he's the most talented too. My only complain is that, he tries to be 'cool' too much so he sometimes end up way over-the-top especially with his sense of style. He's got all he needs to be a superstar in his own right and that should be enough. He should stop being "pa-cool" and all that shiz cause it's not workin' (why is it whenever I say 'work' I can't help but think of Tim Gunn.. lol).
The other guy T.O.P (cutie on the right) is familiar to many, cause he did a music video with Sandara Park called 'I'm Sorry'. The said MV didn't excite me and I don't think there's something special about it. My attention just focused on Sandara who is fondly called BOA of the Phil.. It's probably a big honor for Sandy to even be compared to BOA, considering she's super famous in all of Asia and very talented as well. I'm not a fan of BOA but I know how talented she is. That doesn't mean I'm anti-sandy, in fact I kind of like her. And why not? She's a very likeable person. But then again, I remember her song "In or Out" that scarred me for life! There goes the song again, it keeps playing in my head over and over and I just couldn't stop it...
Ok, back to T.O.P., Is it just me or he looks like Edison Chen in this picture? The way I look at this angle, T.O.P. looks very much like the 'hottest-chinese-superstar-no more'. But I have very bad eyesight that needs laser surgery A.S.A.P., so it's probably just me...
If you guys have a few minutes to kill, please check out this link below so you'd understand why I like this group or better yet, G-Dragon so much!

"From where you are" by Lifehouse
In my previous post dated 11.1.08, I wrote about 'Soundtrack of my life'. This post is all about the songs I would like to play if I ever make a movie about my life. I included the song "From where you are" for the nostalgic scene.
You know how a song reminds you of someone or something, and you feel a special kind of feeling just by listening to it? This song means a lot to me, as it clearly expresses my 'longing-ness' for my father who died last year and I'm feeling all sort of emotion whenever I hear it. Let the lyrics explain how I feel deep inside....
So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you
Yeah, I miss you
So far away from where you are
Standing underneath the stars
And I wish you were here
I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
I feel the beating of your heart
I see the shadows of your face
Just know that wherever you are
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here
This song is currently on repeat mode and I don't know how long till I get tired of listening to it.
